Look below to learn about some inspiring activists and environmentalists that are doing great things in the world to spread the word and make a difference!
  • David Suzuki (http://www.davidsuzuki.org/) - David Takayoshi Suzuki was born in Vancouver, Canada, on March 24th, 1936. He grew up with his twin sister, Marcia, and two other siblings: Geraldine and Jenny. At the age of six, the Second World War ended and David Suzuki, being Japanese Canadian, was forced to move close to the Rockies. His family then moved to London, Ontario, and attended secondary school there. David Suzuki began his environmental career in 1979, when he broadcasted a television series called “The Nature of Things”. His next broadcast, “The Secret of Life” won an award. David Suzuki continued his environmental career, founding the David Suzuki Foundation. The David Suzuki Foundation focuses on promoting social change with goals to protect our climate, transform the economy, protect nature, reconnect with nature and build community. David Suzuki has written many books as well, some of which include “Looking At”, “Inventing the Future” and “Wisdom of the Elders”. David Suzuki is a world renowned and inspiring activist!
  • Jane Goodall (http://www.janegoodall.ca/) – Jane Goodall is an activist who has done a lot of work to help protect the environment and animals, specifically chimpanzees, during the past 50 years. Since she was a child, she always loved animals and dreamed of studying them. She started her career, by going to Africa to visit a friend. There, she  learned about an area in Tanzania where there were chimpanzees that the government wanted to be studied. She was interested in the idea and studied the chimpanzees for many years. From her research, she learned about how these remarkable creatures are so close to humans and that they were quickly becoming endangered. She started the Jane Goodall Institute to spread the message and work on projects around the world, including protecting chimpanzee habitat, supporting people in poor communities in Africa and promoting sustainability. Now, Jane travels around the world, inspiring others, especially youth, to protect animals and the environment. Dr. Jane Goodall, has written many books and made many documentaries. Jane Goodall, an inspiring philanthropist, environmentalist and zoologist, has made a huge difference in the world!
  • Al Gore (http://www.algore.com/) – Al Gore, former vice president of the US, is a famous environmentalist who has made a huge difference by spreading awareness about climate change. Throughout his years in the US Congress, he advocated the dangers of global climate change and promoted solutions to it. Al Gore is the author and creator of the book and documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth”. This is a best-selling book and one of the top documentary films in history, awarded two Academy Awards for Best Documentary Feature and Best Original Song. An Inconvenient Truth explains the causes and effects of global warming, as well as the solutions to it. He has also written other books, including “Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis” and “Earth in the Balance”. Al Gore works on “The Alliance for Climate Protection“, “The Climate Project“, “Live Earth“, “Current TV” and “Generation Investment Management“. This famous environmentalist has made a huge difference and spread the word about climate change to many people!
