Nowadays, most people take cars practically everywhere! We usually fuel our cars with gasoline or diesel, which are both forms of oil. When we burn these fuels, they produce carbon dioxide and contribute to the greenhouse effect. Because of this, cars are huge contributors to global climate change. If we reduced the amount of times we took our cars, we could cut down dramatically on our usage of fossil fuels. And it’s not that hard to do this! We can walk or bike to close places and bus or take the skytrain to farther places. If you try to stay local most of the time and go to places in your neighbourhood, you won’t have to use your car much at all and it’ll probably also be nice to take a walk out in the fresh air!
As well, scientists and engineers have been working on making more efficient vehicles, such as hybrid or electric cars and using alternative fuels.
Below are some ways that YOU can reduce your transportation impact on the environment!
1. Modes of Transportation:
- Walk or bike to close places.
- Take the bus.
- Carpool with friends.
2. Cars:
- Buy a hybrid or electric car.
- Don’t idle.
- Join a car sharing group.
- Use ethanol or biodiesel to fuel your car.
