Often, we use fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) as sources of energy for heat and electricity in our homes. When these gasses are burned, they release carbon dioxide which rises into the atmosphere. As demonstrated in the greenhouse effect, these gasses trap radiation from the sun in Earth’s atmosphere. This radiation heats up the atmosphere and causes climate change. Therefore, we our putting our planet and ourselves in danger by using this source of energy. And even worse, many people use much more electricity in their homes than they need. If we started thinking about what we’re using and try to use a more reasonable amount, then we can dramatically cut down on our usage of fossil fuels.
