Changes in climate have a huge effect on animals and has already caused many to become endangered. All animals have already adapted to their normal climates, but as the climates change, they are not able to adapt as quickly as they need to and face many problems. Sometimes animals such as polar bears have to swim for great distances to find land because the ice is melting. Others have trouble finding food and shelter and some cannot live in the intense climate, whether it is extremely hot or cold. Often they will die and as more and more die, the species will become endangered and eventually extinct.
When a species becomes endangered, it affects nature in many ways. The biggest problem is that it will greatly disrupt patterns in the food chain, causing other animals to become endangered too. Also, depending on the animal that becomes endangered, it may cause harmful effects on nature. If hummingbirds or bees become extinct, many plants will have trouble surviving because fewer plants will be pollinated. We also need earthworms to aerate the ground and rodents to eat the underbrush in forests to decrease the chance of a fire. There are many things that animals do to help nature, so it is important that they do not become endangered.
In BC, species are quickly become endangered due to pollution, climate change and loss of habitat. BC is home to a wide range of plant and animal species that make this province beautiful! However, as described above, as more and more species become endangered it affects nature’s natural patterns in many ways. So, shouldn’t something be done to help protect these species? Well, we definitely need something to be done, but unfortunately BC does not have endangered species legislation to protect it’s wildlife. In fact, BC and Alberta are the only provinces in Canada without laws to protect their species. BC Needs Endangered Species Legislation!

It is extremely important that we protect species from becoming endangered. We can start taking action NOW!!!
